The Media Specialist will develop written and multimedia content for Hebrew SeniorLife’s media and social media programs to build awareness and promote the reputation of the Hebrew SeniorLife brand, its health care offerings and senior living communities, research and teaching programs, and philanthropic initiatives. The ideal candidate will have exceptional organizational, written and verbal communications skills, and be innovative, creative, and results-oriented.  They should be enthusiastic about news and communications, and skilled at communicating the HSL story through media relations and social media programs.  They should be comfortable talking with media and coordinating details that will make media interviews and events successful. They should also have a proven track record in delivering and measuring social media programs.

Responsibilities:

Media

Externally Facing Responsibilities:

Research, write, edit, proofread and distribute media materials, such as press releases, calendar listings, pitches, fact sheets, photo captions, bylines, speaker bureau materials, and briefing materials.
Build relationships with hyper-local media outlets.
Pitch and place media stories.
Manage outbound editorial calendar program.
Provide media relations/event support across HSL campuses.
Manage and respond to inbound inquiries from HARO.
With manager, maintain, build, and promote the HSL speakers bureau.

Internally Facing Responsibilities:

Cultivate internal sources across Hebrew SeniorLife who can help identify compelling news and feature stories.
Document protocols for media best practices.
Maintain media tracker and other reports as required.
Research and build media editorial calendar and media lists.
Monitor for media coverage.
Prepare merchandizing materials, such as HSL in the News and Marcus Institute Quarterly Reports. With manager, enhance merchandizing vehicles through the incorporation of social media posts and conversations.
Other duties as assigned.

Social Media

Externally Facing Responsibilities:

Contribute, write, and produce written and visual content for social media platforms (Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn) such as posts, Twitter cards, infographics, photographs, and video.
Create and maintain HSL’s hashtags, key words, and trending topics.
Provide front-line response to social media issues created by employees, residents, family members. Monitor for issues, create recommended response plan, and work with manager and Chief Communications Officer to execute response.

Internally Facing Responsibilities:

As a member of the Editorial Board, present social metrics to help the board understand what contents performs successfully; create and maintain the social media calendar as it contributes to the overall HSL editorial calendar; and look for opportunities to repurpose existing content.
With manager, document protocols for social media practices, including the creative brief/strategy and policies and procedures.
Continuously improve outcomes by capturing and analyzing the appropriate social data/metrics, insights and best practices, and then acting on the information.
Track monthly social media metrics and distill key performance indicators for management.

 

Qualifications

2-4 years working experience in media relations and social media, preferably in health care or life sciences.
Strong knowledge of the media landscape and a passion for media relations.
Good relationship-building skills and solid project management skills.
Aptitude for science, research, and/or medical writing.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Google Ad Words, and social media platforms such as Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter, and related tools.
Proven track record of building and engaging social media audiences.
Understanding of social media metrics; able to interpret the results and take action to increase effectiveness of social media campaigns.
Positive attitude, detail orientation with good multitasking and organizational ability.
Graphics or multimedia experience a plus.
BA/BS in Communications, Digital Media, Public Relations, or a related field.
Driver’s license and car required.
