Accreditation in Public Relations and Military Communications (APR+M) is a unique credential that sets you apart from other military communications professionals. It indicates achievement of certification in military public affairs, and demonstrates to military leaders your high proficiency in areas critical to military communications activities.

The APR+M signifies that an individual meets all of the qualifications for Accreditation in Public Relations (APR), PLUS a rigorous knowledge surrounding military public affairs.

Like almost everything in life, writing down and mapping out how you plan to complete your APR+M is a key factor to achieving success. In this session, you’ll learn:

·         What to research before you start.

·         How to build an achievable plan.

·         How to begin the process and where to get help.

·         Tips for how you can be Advanced from the Readiness Review to the computer-based portion of the Examination.

Presenters

Julie A. Briggs, DoD liaison, APR+M Council, and operations analyst, Defense Media Activity

Briggs is the DoD liaison to the APR+M Council. She currently is working on her APR+M. An Air Force retiree with more than 26 years in public affairs, Briggs works at the Defense Media Activity as an operations analyst, and the program manager for the policy and proponency program. She recently revised DoD Instruction 5120.04, the policy document governing DoD newspapers and magazines.


Barbara Burfeind, APR+M, Fellow PRSA, chief, visual information strategy and plans, Defense Media Activity

Photo of Barbara Burfeind, APR+M, Fellow PRSA Burfeind, currently works for the Defense Media Activity on visual information strategy, planning and process improvement regarding DoD imagery. She conducts outreach through education initiatives and information sharing, and collaborates with other government agencies. She transitioned to government service as a strategic communicator following more than 25 years in Navy public affairs career.


Martha Lockwood, APR, chief, information products, Air Force Production, Defense Media Activity

Lockwood, is the chief of information products for Air Force Production in Fort Meade, Md. Prior to her government service, which began in 2012, she was a communicator and registered lobbyist with national and international trade associations representing the communications, energy and finance industries for nearly 30 years.
