PRSA Boston proudly recognizes Black History Month, a time to honor the achievements, leadership, and lasting contributions of Black communicators, storytellers, and change-makers throughout history.
This year marks the 100th anniversary of the celebration of Black History Month which was introduced in 1926 by Carter G. Woodson, a noted Black historian, scholar and educator.
Woodson began this now month-long initiative as Negro History Week. In 1976, United States President Gerald Ford officially recognized Black History Month and called upon the public to “seize the opportunity to honor the too-often neglected accomplishments of Black Americans in every area of endeavor throughout our history.”
The month of February is also an opportunity to reflect on the importance of equity, representation, and inclusion in public relations and communications – and to recommit ourselves to amplifying diverse voices in our industry and communities.
During Black History Month 2026, the PRSA Black Voices Affinity Group is hosting a program series designed to reflect the full leadership continuum within the communications industry, from C-suite decision-makers to next-generation leaders shaping the future. These virtual panels taking place during this month balance executive insight, emerging leadership voices, and industry legacy. All PRSA members are welcome to sign up!
We celebrate Black history not only this month, but every day. Black history is American history.
