OBJECTIVES/PURPOSE

A core member of the Global Vaccine Communications Team, the Global Dengue Lead is responsible for all dengue-related communications. The Dengue Lead partners with the Dengue Global Program Team, the Dengue Global Brand Team and Global Vaccine Communications to develop and implement comprehensive communication plans to support the Phase 3, pre-launch and launch activities of Takeda’s dengue vaccine candidate. This includes creating and executing plans comprised of executive, product, disease awareness, thought leadership, internal, external and digital tactics. The Dengue Lead will be a proven communications professional, passionate about global health and communications, who will bring innovative approaches to Takeda’s external communications, including leveraging new channels and new ways of using existing channels.

ACCOUNTABILITIES

Plan and execute public relations strategies to promote and defend the reputation of Takeda, the Vaccine Business Unit and its dengue vaccine candidate, including the development of issues management and crisis communications plans
Ensure thought leadership and media outreach are aligned with the Dengue Global Program and Brand Teams and Global Vaccine Business Unit’s strategies and objectives
Act as communications lead for major congresses where Takeda has a significant presence related to dengue
Ensure full coordination of dengue-related activities with regional and local operating company organizations, working with counterparts in regional business units and Corporate Communications, including awareness events
Identify opportunities to build awareness and understanding of dengue and Takeda’s vaccine candidate internally, throughout the Vaccine Business Unit and Takeda-wide, as well as externally
Provide strong project management/leadership, including effectively working with communications agency of record on key communications activities and initiatives, ensuring that they are completed on time, within budget, in accordance with Medical, Marketing, Regulatory and Legal requirements and with a high level of quality
Support and step in for Head of Global Vaccine Communications, as necessary

CORE ELEMENTS RELATED TO THIS ROLE

Represent Vaccine Communications on the Dengue Global Product Team, Dengue Global Brand Team and related subteams
Work with cross-functional teams to anticipate and effectively manage communication issues, as well as formulate strategic communication counsel
Lead strategic communication planning for dengue vaccine candidate and program
Create and execute corresponding communication plans (including digital and social media, as well as traditional media) and materials, supporting data milestones, launch preparations and launches
Work closely with country communicators on dengue-related communications
Identify highest-impact opportunities for Vaccine Communications’ support
Understand dengue, Takeda’s dengue vaccine candidate and program
Support vaccine corporate/business development communications as necessary

DIMENSIONS AND ASPECTS

Technical/Functional (Line) Expertise

Experience with developing, executing and managing communications strategies and plans within complex global organizations with multiple cultures, in transformative stages undergoing change
Global launch communications experience preferred, ideally in emerging markets
Knowledge of current and evolving communications tactics and channels, including utilizing communications technology such as podcasts, intranets and internal and external social networks
Able to translate complex scientific information into clear, concise language, understandable by all audiences, both verbally and in writing
Passionate about and knowledgeable of the pharmaceutical and/or life sciences sector
Confident coaching leaders responsible for implementation/ execution to improve communications capabilities and personal impact
Project management experience in corporate communications, including managing several programs/ projects simultaneously; implementation/oversight of multiple communications platforms and channels preferred
Strong business acumen and robust understanding of regulatory requirements as they relate to communications programs and initiatives
Demonstrate quick analysis, good judgment and rapid response on corporate reputational topics and issues, including ability to convincingly articulate the company’s position on dengue-related topics internally and externally

Global strategic role

EDUCATION, BEHAVIOURAL COMPETENCIES AND SKILLS

Bachelors degree required; BS/BA in journalism, writing, communications or global health preferred
Minimum 10 years progressive experience in corporate communications, preferably with an emphasis on public relations, global health and/or product communications. Prior experience in biopharmaceutical space is highly preferable, and global health and/or vaccine experience is ideal
