Job Summary

The Corporate Communications department works collaboratively to engage both internal and external audiences in building public understanding and transparency about the work of the Fed.  We are a team made up of communications strategists, media and government relations practitioners, social media strategists, writer/editors, user experience and visual designers, multimedia specialists, content managers, product managers, and digital strategists.

The Senior Communications Strategist, Organizational Communications supports the Bank’s activities in public affairs, with a focus on employee communications. He/she is responsible for coordinating content and campaigns for the Bank’s internal channels to keep employees informed and engaged.

Principal Accountabilities

Develop relationships with subject matter experts and collaborate with both teammates and colleagues from around the Bank to proactively identify compelling storytelling opportunities for the Boston Fed’s intranet, digital signage, email, and organization-wide events.
Work with stakeholders to determine proactive communications strategies to drive visibility, dissemination, and absorption of Boston Fed output, initiatives, and key priorities.
Propose creative solutions to communications challenges for range of internal audiences, ensuring alignment with the Bank’s strategic goals and objectives. Coordinate with cross-disciplinary Corporate Communications colleagues to achieve the most comprehensive results possible.
Utilize qualitative and quantitative data and analysis to inform internal communications strategies and meet business objectives.
Engage colleagues around the Bank in the practice of good communications and in advancing the Bank’s reputation.  Proactively stay abreast of Bank issues and developments.
Represent the Bank and the communications function in settings inside and outside the Bank as needed, including participation in Federal Reserve System workgroups.

This position may be required to directly supervise others, and he or she may provide direction to junior team members.

Knowledge and Experience

Must have Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, or a related discipline, and a minimum of 5 years of related work experience.

Requires excellent writing, editing, verbal, organizational, and analytical skills. Ability to simplify and distill complex topics for a general audience.
Must have keen interest in topic areas related to community development, economics, and financial matters.
Journalistic instincts and prior news writing experience highly valued. Must have demonstrated experience developing engaging content for a variety of audiences and platforms. Knowledge of multi-media production and promotion techniques a plus.
Experience planning and executing large scale events, including conceptualizing, liaising with stakeholders and vendors, developing talking points for speakers, managing logistics, and presenting post-event reports.
Must be able to handle the demands of sensitive and sometimes urgent communications in a complex organization with calm, poise, and tact. Must exercise discretion and sound judgment at all times.
Must have great attention to detail, and be a self-starter with the ability to carry multiple projects concurrently. Should be comfortable working independently and on teams – and possess the agility to work with individuals at various levels in organization.
Must have experience and be comfortable with Microsoft Office applications – Outlook, Teams, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc. Experience using website content management tools a plus.
Excellent interpersonal skills, attitude, and collegiality; a desire to contribute and grow professionally in a public-service oriented environment.
