Could our timing be better, coming off of #deliverygate? Turn over a New Year’s Resolution to learn more about the evolving Boston Globe and the Business Section in particular. PRSA Boston’s Independent Practitioners Network (IPN) is heading back to the Boston Globe on Jan. 14. Note: This program is so popular, we even have a snow date of Jan. 21st!

Our genial host for the day will be Larry Edelman (@GlobeBizEd), Business Editor since May 2015, when he returned to the Boston Globe from the Wall Street Journal.

Larry will join us for a lunch presentation and Q&A session, and may bring along other business editors, reporters or columnists, so don’t miss this opportunity to get to know key Globe journalists. Larry will take us inside the Globe’s business beats and share insights on how paper is evolving into a digital news organization. The company recently announced that it will relocate the editorial and business offices to Exchange Place, 53 State Street at the end of the year, with the printing operation going to Taunton this March. So there is much to discuss and learn. Lunch will be provided.

Some of the topics we expect to explore include:

– Larry’s background in journalism, with the Globe from 1989-1999, as VP, Investor Relations at John Hancock, ten years at Bloomberg and two years at The Wall Street Journal.

– Boston Globe’s approach to digital newsgathering – the needs of the newspaper in the digital age – how the newsroom is changing, and how those changes impact PR people.  Some social channels where this program would find interest beyond the conference room:  @muckrack – @prweek – @prsa @PRSABoston – #PRSABos

Everyone who wants to attend must register as there is a 25 person capacity limit. IPNers have priority, then members. We have had a waiting list in the past. Parking is limited in front of the Globe building so look for the overflow parking in the giant lot behind the Globe (enter on Morrissey Boulevard, turn right after the building and pass by a guard shack). In the event of significant snow or other inclement weather, the meeting will take place one week later, on January 21, same time, same place.
